when you think of beads most of you probably think glass, silver, pearls, gemstones. do any of you think of polymer clay as a potential? if you have not used polymer beads why not? I am writing an article for www.metalchik.com and would love some feedback. |

I have used them years ago because I could make custom colors but I don't consider then high end...in my personal opinion. I have seen some people make really detailed beads using that medium but I didn't have that patience. |

oh hi Jack's Mom! I am talking about using polymer beads, not necessarily making them yourself. the "not high end" comment is just the kind of feedback I am looking for. please keep it coming. |

I probably wouldn't use them as they don't fit in with my aesthetics, and also, as HeatherlyDesigns mentioned, they might have difficulty breaking out of a certain price-bracket....so it would be tough to combine them with hand-made metal work.
....even just because within the industry they are not regarded as a "high-end" material in the way precious metal and gemstones are. With those, you get an inherant monetary value...whereas with Polymer clay it is almost entirely artistic value, and often you struggle to get good money for artistic value even when backed up with material worth! |

Yep, and I meant making jewelry with them. The quality sure stretches the spectrum though. The polymer clay beads I like aren't generally the simple round ones, but the more intricate pillows or squares. |

I love polymer beads! I plan on working on my polymer techniques this winter because you can make some truly stunning beads. And quite frankly it is fun. |

I love to use polymer clay beads. My sister's polymer clay beads are stunning. They look like glass but I must agree with abigailpercy. Polymer clay artist (and yes I mean artist) have to sometimes educate their buyers that polymer clay is no longer a child's toy but a wonderful artist medium and that their pieces have just as much value as precious metal and gemstones. Ok, I am putting my soapbox up...sorry...:) |
