| When is it time to go? |
|
hookitup says: |
Is there a certain amount of time that one should keep their shop open, attempting to make sales, and a time to finally say, "It's just not going to work." and close down shop?
I am now going into month 6 without any sales. I have updated photos, descriptions, listed new items, renewed items, promoted, linked, blogged, and set up a website.....all to no avail.
Is it time to close up and go elsewhere? Or should I wait a little longer? |

I'm assuming you had another shop before this one, since you opened this one in December which makes it 4 months not 6. ;)
Where are you promoting? I know I don't recognize your avatar or your shop name from the forums, but honestly, that's such a small part of your promoting. Getting off Etsy and out into the "real" world is key. |

I guess you have to ask yourself if it has stopped being fun or if your sales are making you feel truly defeated when it comes to your craft. If you are still having fun and enjoy the process, do the sales really matter? |

i think if you are here to strictly make a full time living then yes its time to go.
if you love doing your craft and your items look very nice then stick it out use it as a place to showcase your hobby and enjoy yourself.
think of it this way would so many people see your items if you didnt pay the 20 cents. |

Sounds like you do not have any overall "business plan". You should take the time to think about your potential market and how you will capture it. Then you will have a benchamark to use when asking your question. |

ds... :) I've posted a lot in forums, many of them were in threads you started. Sounds like I need to revamp my avatar, or start making a bigger impression with my words....
I have my own website, and it is even on google search. I wear copies of my jewelry all the time... I've promoted in other forums (off etsy), in an effort to bring more traffic to my shop... |

fotofiction.... it's still fun. i'm very tired because of my job, but i still love creating. Sometimes I just wonder if, with almost 800 views and very few hearts, my items just are not good enough.... |

Oh, oops.;0 Sorry, hookitup! I honestly don't recognize your avatar. I think there are so many jewellery avatars out there, that unless it's a really striking one, they all start to blend in together for me. Does that make sense? There are a LOT of earring avatars.
What do you do off the internet, though? Have you approached a B&M about getting your things in their shop? Do you hand out business cards, flyers, talk to people, put an ad in your local newspaper? I started a thread a couple of days ago about this. It has some really great ideas from others about getting your name out there. Let me see if I can find the link for you. ;) |

I think if you tried to post an item daily, you would have more exposure. Before Etsy, where did your sales come from? Maybe redirect those customers here. |
