i would like to make a section with special prices for single moms - would this be discriminatory???

Probably. But in a good way.
P.S. How would they prove it/would you require proof? Maybe you could just send a percentage of your proceeds from that section to a local community service that supports single moms?

i am not a single mom, but sometimes i wish i were as all the ones i know get free junk all the time anyways and have more luxuries than my hard working little family can afford

well, if you didn't let anyone else purchase, yeah, but as a section...I don't think so. You can do whatever you want (as long as it follows the etsy rules, etc) in your shop......I doubt you are really going to ask someone to submit tax returns or something to prove they are single and have kids..
of course, I know someone will be offended, since no matter what, someone is always offended no matter what anyone does!!!
