civiljustice, we are all for protecting our children but this law takes things too far. The majority of us on here are parents who's top priority is protecting our children. For you to insinuate that we don't care because we are against this law as it is written I might add, is ignorant. Do the research and you will see just how hugely this law will impact not only our right to purchase handmade items for our children but the already ailing economy. Not to mention how it will affect our already overflowing landfills, once the toys start flowing in that are deemed unsafe.
I will continue to get the word out and make the public aware of this law. And all aspects of it. |

civiljustice, I am at a loss for words! And, let me assure you, that does NOT happen easily. Did you just join Etsy today to throw around insinuations, and inaccurate ones at that? How dare you treat us like WE are the money-hungry corporations that will endanger children for profit!! Every single one of us cares about children. NO ONE has argued FOR lead in our toys, obviously! But, it is just plain common sense that cotton does not contain harmful levels of lead and pthalates!! Nor does yarn. or felt. or most wood. or polyfill. Perhaps, you need to educate YOURSELF on the products and people of Etsy. |

I wrote about the CPSIA on my (brand new) blog today before seeing this thread. I kind of wish I had seen it, because it states the issue much better!

civiljustice, putting thousands of crafters (who put real love into their creations for the benefit of children and wouldn't dream of doing anything to harm them)out of work hurts the families and children of these people, as well as hurting the economy that today's children will have to inherit when the time comes. |

just because congress overwhelmingly passed something doesn't make it right.
I don't think the law should be reversed, there just need to be some reasonable exceptions.
For instance, materials that don't contain lead, such as cotton, or yarn, probably don't need to be tested... |
