Dear Etsy,
For the past several days I have been evaluating why my google alerts are no longer working properly, and have been searching for what has changed in "Etsy World".
I noticed my alerts faltering around June 2 or so, I usually check them daily.
In looking at my shop:
--->>> my "sections" now say "handmade" in my meta name keywords
--->>> my ad pages now say "craft commercial" in each and every ad
This is incorrect, my items are NOT handmade.
When did this change / bug occur?
Also, the terms "craft commercial" are not terms that are used when searching for glass beads.
A person seeking my products, would type in the keywords that I am already using, ie. czech glass beads.
Now, each ad content starts with "craft commercial".
Please advise on this bug.

Thanks, HumanInterest, for looking. When I just pluged in Vintage red trench coat it did not come up & I did it numerous times last night & tonight. I even took classic & put it at the end & checked my tags against the Vintage red trench coats that were coming up.
I'm not clear about this new tagging but mine is pretty simple!

When supplies and vintage sales all but nil, perhaps Etsy will fix it, because if they don't, they can kiss their bread and butter goodbye. If we cannot be found in searches, no one can buy, unless they already know about your shop. They seem to be in no hurry to fix it at the moment, even though they say it shouldn't be that way. |

There appears to be a bug or a flaw in the logic for how meta keywords are generated on shop pages. I have requested that the tech team investigate and try to get it corrected. Like all things, this will need to be internally prioritized and addressed accordingly.

It should also be noted that while meta keywords are looked at by search engines for SEO purposes, they are generally not as important a factor in SEO as page titles, meta descriptions and other factors. SEO is a complex thing, and each search engine is a little different. Google, for example, is continually refining and tweaking how they rank web pages. This makes achieving "good" SEO kind of like trying to hit a moving target. We will also be refining and improving Etsy's SEO as needed to help keep content optimized for search outside of Etsy. |
