optimized for SEO.*****

Then why in the world did what was supposed to be an improvement have the opposite effect? It did not improve

SEO at all! Not a tiny bit!!!
I was hired to do SEO for a friend of mine and if I did this to his business I would be beaten and left on the curb.

I know for a fact that action taken to improve SEO has an almost immediate effect on a website -I have a web

Site I know!!!

Drop a link on twitter, or stumbleupon, or kaboodle, or a good forum thread, or a good blog!!! And watch the
Views or page counts of those items move!!! I have not used my blog in months , and had only 2 views on it for this week. My blog was all over twitter last night and today and today it has 1003 views on it !!! The internet is a powerful tool and some of us know how to use it. It's an easy fix, a couple of key strokes, and it's gone!

If there is a logical reason to append the keyword *Etsy* to the title of every single product listed. If there's a reason to append *Handmade* and *Etsy* to items which may already have that tag, chosen by the shop owner the artist or crafts person.

I think that we deserve a really good explanation!

We think we can improve upon these formats for item pages and thus we're actively working to identify a new approach. We understand the urgency around this issue and will provide updates on our plans and progress in the next week or two. This issue is important to us, and we want to take the time to get it right.

Uerhm...the next week or two? You mean some time around rent time when you have figured out -----what to do?
do you mean how you can still stuff the keywords in there and get away with it?
What is there to get right other than do what is the correct and ethical thing to do according to googles guidelines

I am extremely disappointed over this! it's not even funny!

It takes a key board stroke to undo

I'd also like to share some stats:

* 1,316,977 new items were listed in the month of May , 1,277,442 new items were listed in the month of April

2,594,419 items listed in April and May- thats 2,594,419 item pages that all had the key word etsy in the product title
no matter what category they were listed in hmmmmmm

that doesn't include the items already listed on the site

497,434,747 page views were recorded on the site this month, a 1% increase from April.

A 1% increase in views? and a 3% increase in listings?

Most seasoned sellers will tell you they use to get several views 8- 10-20 the first 4 minutes and over 30 in an hour for every single listing in their shop.
Even after the view fairy was put to rest and etsy implemented the unique view, view counters. And with out twittering every listing and renewal! With out tweaking the system by fake edits so they show back up in the pounce feature.(no i do not do that but i know it works )

Duplicate content

Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar. Mostly, this is not deceptive in origin. Examples of non-malicious duplicate content could include:

* Discussion forums that can generate both regular and stripped-down pages targeted at mobile devices
* Store items shown or linked via multiple distinct URLs
* Printer-only versions of web pages

If your site contains multiple pages with largely identical content, there are a number of ways you can indicate your preferred URL to Google. (This is called "canonicalization".) More information about canonicalization.

However, in some cases, content is deliberately duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or win more traffic. Deceptive practices like this can result in a poor user experience, when a visitor sees substantially the same content repeated within a set of search results.

Google tries hard to index and show pages with distinct information. This filtering means, for instance, that if your site has a "regular" and "printer" version of each article, and neither of these is blocked in robots.txt or with a no index meta tag, we'll choose one of them to list. In the rare cases in which Google perceives that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved. As a result, the ranking of the site may suffer, or the site might be removed entirely from the Google index, in which case it will no longer appear in search results.

the only way that this is acceptable to anyone at all is if you are claiming that our products are yours like zappos does on their web site and free people does on their website and that you are BRANDING each and every product listed on etsy as an etsy product.

If that's the case I have a list of wholesale prices and some
documents regarding licensing, and copyrights you need to sign first

This whole thing would be like puncturing the tires on your car--which is a really stupid thing to do in the first place--and then waiting for a couple of weeks to get them fixed.
