If your item does not fit into a category provided by etsy, it is necessary for a customer find your item by typing into the search bar.

Does this type of search always default to most relevant search? It seems to be this way for me when I search for my items using the terms a customer would use to find my items.

I cannot tag my items as "digital collage sheets". The best I can do is "collage sheets" If I were to tag them as "digital collage" this would make them more relevant. Are we allowed to do this? Once they are in supplies does that keep them from bleeding over to the digital collage category?

In the last two weeks according to my google analytics report I have gotten a total of 16 visits searching for "digital collage sheets" all of those 16 visits have been returning customers and 0 have been from new customers. I've had 13 visits searching for collage sheets and all 13 have been returning visitors and 0 new visitors.
I've had 46 visitors searching for paperstreet and 44 of them have been return visitors and 2 have been new visitors.

This is very disconcerting in light of the fact that there is little to no visibility from search engines and apparently 0 visibility on etsy within my category.

Okay so if a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it does it make a sound?

Is this happening in other categories?

Thanks gypsy, I think that digital collage sheets get a very bad reputation because they are mistagged and bleeding over into the art, digital collage, and collage categories, so really no one cares if those who follow the rules are treated fairly or not.

Can't it be in your listing title? I thought search defaults to title as well as tags.

It is in all of my titles it does no good because almost all digital collage sheets have it in the titles.

__________

Got it -- so tags are better than titles?
(I'm not really sure how tags and titles are treated differently by search)

Just as an example, I searched Supplies for "digital collage" -- I pulled up items with it in the title and without, with it in the tags and without, and some where it was in the materials used.

So if you had "digital collage" in your title I'd be able to locate you, right?
