Hi all! The holidays are a wonderful fruitful time for all of us. I would love for us sellers to come together and load this thread with great information for holiday orders. Let us discuss:

Our experiences, good and bad
Ordering deadlines
Amount of time it takes to make certain orders. Getting the orders shipped on time.
Shipping congestion and chaos around Christmas time.

Please post all useful information and the best advice for new sellers. I still consider myself fairly new as this is my second Holiday season on Etsy. I know what I would do differently and I would all the experts to come in so that we can make out holiday ordering system wonderful!

i do a lot of gift shipments around this time, which is cool. if you do those, make sure you pay attention, go slow, and keep notes if you need to. that way gifts get to where they belong.

So I am leaning toward opening up a time frame for ordering. I was thinking that the month of October would be good for Body Knits or the larger orders that take at least two weeks process. Smaller orders can be made in November like hats or anything that takes a couple hours or one day to make.

Welcome Heartfelt. It can get really hectic around the holidays. Shipping is so crazy and packages usually arrive later than they normally would around this time. It's really important to stress to buyers that if they want their item to arrive BEFORE gift opening time they have to make sure they order by such and such date. You will then know how long it will take to make the item and then you have to factor in that when it may take 3 days for something to arrive it may end up taking 7 or even 14 days the closer it gets to the Holidays and after!

typically the USPS will post a calendar on their website regarding holiday shipping times, but I don't htink I saw it for December until the second week or so of december last year.

i suggest stocking up on flat rate envelopes or boxes throughout the next few months, cus last year I noticed the free ones in the PO lobby were all gone when I needed them, so be smart- think ahead!

For my shop, the last two years on Etsy were very quiet during the holiday season. My sales both years came in January.

I have learned though that if your shop isn't making consistent sales prior to the holiday season, sales don't pickup because of it. Best advice is to begin promoting your shop heavily now, don't wait until October to promote.
