Hi all,

We're introducing a new Privacy tab in the Account section of Your Etsy for managing the information you expose publicly on the site.

With this enhancement we will give you the option to make your purchase history private.

Purchases are currently public on Etsy by way of our feedback system. Etsy's feedback system will be modified as necessary to allow members to make their purchases private if they choose to do so.

If you choose to make your purchases private, the feedback you leave for shop owners will not display the item you purchased or your username. The feedback shop owners leave for you will be anonymized in a similar way.

Feedback pages will be simplified, and contain two types of feedback: feedback left for the member as a buyer, and feedback left for the member as a shop owner.

The feedback system will remain the same in all other respects. Feedback ratings and feedback text will continue to be visible to everyone.

If you have questions, please post in this thread:

Thanks,
Sean

Q: How will Etsy handle feedback abuse?

A: The feedback will only be anonymous publicly. Etsy Admins will still be able to see the full information for abuse cases.

The seller involved in transactions will still be able to see who left the feedback. They will report any feedback that is against the rules to us so we can investigate.

Hi everyone!

Thank you thus far for your feedback on the new feature.

We have received input that displaying feedback that you have left alongside feedback you have received is confusing, and we will be revisiting this. Thank you again!

Here's another FAQ:

Q: How do you make your feedback private?

A: You set it on Your Etsy > Account > Privacy:

www.etsy.com/your/account/privacy (choose "Only You" under Purchases)

(Please note that that link takes everyone to their own page- others are not able to see your private pages in Your Etsy where you manage your account/shop).

Hi all,

We will be distinguishing feedback left for others on public feedback pages by adding a third view.

Public feedback pages will contain feedback left for the member as a shop owner, feedback left for the member as a buyer, and feedback that member has left for others, in either role.

Feedback pages will also receive a new wider design in the near future, along with Favorites pages and Profile pages.

Thanks,
Sean

Q: How will I know if the buyer is trustworthy if their purchases are private?

A: If the buyer has made their purchases private, you are still able to see their feedback- both left for others, and received. It just does not display the item that the feedback is regarding.

Public feedback pages now contain three views, as described above: feedback left for the member as a shop owner, feedback left for the member as a buyer, and feedback that member has left for others.

Thanks,
Sean
