Original Post

this really irritates me. i agreed to buy a vintage item and the seller marked it 'reserved' until i paid it off. Now some as*hole comes alone and purchases the item. the shop owner thought it was me that sent in the money and they shipped the item today to someone else. i wish i knew who the person was that bought this item b/c I would rip them a new one for buying something that is clearly marked 'RESERVED.' (obviously i am venting, sorry).

I put in my listing....DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOUR ARE XYZ. IF YOU DO PURCHASE THIS ITEM, YOUR TRANSACTION WILL BE CANCELLED.

I can't believe the seller did not know the wrong person had purchased this item!!

I don't use a picture of the item that is reserved.Someone other than who it was intended for would not know what they are buying.

jeridiehard -- I am new this service (a few months), I am not sure if the seller is also new. I will send a message to them advising on how to do reserved listings the way you stated, b/c maybe they are unaware. Sigh. Thanks.

It'd be nice if Etsy allowed sellers to create true reserved listings which can only be seen by the people they're meant for. Kind of like ebay's private listings where you can pre-approve buyers.

It happens. Weird that the seller didn't realize your and the purchaser's screen names didn't match.
Removing the picture is usually a good deterrent =)

I certainly hope the Seller now refunds your deposit!

Sorry you seller wasn't on top of things.

When I set up a reserved listing, I'll put the word 'reserved' in the title and write in the description "this item is reserved. If you are not the person who requested this item and you make the purchase, the sale will be cancelled. However if you would like something similar, please feel free to contact me.""

And yes, I have had to cancel sales.

I have heard of this happening quite a bit.. even more evidence some people don't read!

I also say "Reserved for (whoever). Please don't buy unless you are (whoever)." And I send a live link to the Buyer after I have listed the item.

I'll have to say that I find it VERY curious that the seller sent it to someone else, thinking it was you.
