Because I recently had a very disappointing run in with a reseller in which they took my money, never sent the item, and then sent something very different than what I ordered--I thought etsy would be interested. But they were not. Too big a leap I guess. So how about a smaller step.

I propose that all the models on etsy show their face. This will at least give the etsy community a tool to recognize resellers--since they regularly use the same models.

Perhaps if we show etsy the few models --all working for the same shops etsy might be forced to shut down the resellers in this area.

You know I was just thinking about this and obviously the resellers are here to stay and with the volume some sale I don't foresee Etsy ever doing anything about it so instead of pretending to support Handmade why not just allow them and give them a category of their own. You could have handmade, vintage and resellers.

Then consumers can decide if they want to buy handmade or just use Etsy as another venue such as Ebay to buy from wholesalers.

I think this would get rid of a lot of grief from people here that struggle to compete with these wholesalers claiming to be "Homemade".

It is sad that I as a consumer no longer look at Etsy as being homemade and find I have to do research on my own to see if a shop is legitimate. So Etsy if you can't beat them join them!

A note to ellenrepickles I found some shops now claiming to not only make the stuff but to model them and it is the same face on the wholesale sites.

For anyone that wants to be able to voice their opinion without being shut down by an admin go here:
etsycallout.wordpress.com/

I am not affiliated with them but I often go there to search for shops that I’m suspicious of and am quite shocked that a lot of shops are still on Etsy after see the facts.

I'm sorry you got burned, and I really loathe resellers too and the way Etsy supports their presence here, but admin can't force people to show their model's faces, that's a bit over the top.

Many items that are being sold by resellers don't need to be modelled to be sold.

Its all a matter of talking with the seller and being an 'informed consumer' before making a purchase.

Sorry you got burned by one. Did you file a paypal dispute?

I've never bought from one, but I've noticed a definite uptick. They clog up the search listings and make it impossible to find things. Reporting doesn't seem to do any good. :/

Please don't link to blogs that call out other members. I'm going to wrap this up now, thanks!
