How do I search for an item or shop on Etsy?
As you type your search, you’ll see suggestions for search terms, categories, and subcategories. If you choose the top suggestion, that will search All Items.
If you search for the exact shop name (without spaces), you'll be brought directly to the shop. You can also type this web address in your browser's address bar: http://www.etsy.com/shop/shopname. Replace shopname with the actual shop name.
If you enter part of a shop name, you'll see a link to search shop names that include what you searched for at the bottom of the search results. You can also try the Shop Search page.
If you know the member's name, try People Search. This only works if the name the member displays on their profile is the name you enter into People Search.
People Search and Shop Search are located on the left-hand side of the homepage under More Ways to Shop.
Here are a few tips to help you search on Etsy:
- Use multiple, descriptive terms in a search to narrow down the results. For example: green knit scarf will return fewer, more specific results than just scarf.
- Use a minus sign (-) in front of a word to exclude that term from your search. For example: dress -red will exclude any results for a dress that is tagged with "red."
- Enclose a word or phrase in quotation marks to look for items that only have that exact word or phrase. For example: "sterling silver" will return results that only have that exact phrase. Items with sterling and silver used separately won't appear.
If you’d like to filter your search results even more, you have several options for doing so.
On the left side of every search results page, you’ll see a menu that lists item categories. Clicking on Handmade, Vintage, or Craft Supplies only shows items belonging to those respective categories. Or clicking within the Handmade, Vintage, and Craft Supplies subcategories below gives you even more specific results. When using the Show Only menu, you can limit your search to your Favorite items, or to items only in shops that accept Etsy Gift Cards.
Enabling the Customizable filter will return items from shops that accept Custom Orders.
Beneath the Show Only option, you’ll see a color menu consisting of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Black, and White. Clicking on one of the colors will limit your search results to items tagged with that color. You’ll see a check mark over the color whose filter is enabled, and you can select the View All Colors option just below the color menu to remove that color filter.
You can filter results according to price by entering a price range in the appropriate boxes and clicking the arrow.
You can also filter by shop location. The shop location filter will automatically show your home location, but you can change it by clicking Change.
Filter your search results to items that only ship to your country by clicking Change and choosing your country from the dropdown menu.
