Buying an Item on Etsy

Welcome to Etsy! This guide will walk you through the steps of making a purchase.

If you're new to Etsy, please take a moment to create an account. It's free and easy, and once you do you can buy any of the fabulous goods on Etsy.

Once you've found an item you'd like to buy, follow these steps to check out. Please see Ways to shop: a buyer's guide if you need some help finding the perfect item!

Add the item to your cart

You can add multiple items to your cart

Click the Checkout button

Enter your shipping information

Choose your payment method

You can also enter a note to the seller.

Send your payment

Pay each seller individually

Step 1: Add the item to your cart

When you find an item you want to buy, click the green Add to Cart button. You can also go to your shopping cart at any time by clicking the icon at the top left of the screen.

Step 2: Click the Checkout Button

Enter the quantity you'd like to purchase, if applicable. If you want to continue shopping, click Keep Shopping. To remove an item from your cart, click the small X next to that item. When you are done, click Checkout.

Step 3: Choose Shipping Information

Select a saved address from the dropdown menu or enter a new address. If you are paying with Paypal, make sure the addresses match. Click Revise Cart to go back and edit your order. Click Final Review to proceed. Note you will still have time to make changes on the final review page.

Step 4: Final Review And Submit Your Order

Choose one of the payment methods available. If you'd like, you can leave a message to the seller. Use this to provide sizing or color information for custom listings, or note if your address is different from your address on file with PayPal. Click Edit Shipping to go back. To pay, click the Commit To Buy button. Note, by clicking the Commit To Buy button on this page you agree to pay for all your items in your cart.

Step 5: Complete Payments

If you're paying with check or money order, please send it to the address on this page.

If you are paying with a credit card or through PayPal, click Pay Now. You will be taken to PayPal to complete the purchase. Note that you do not need a PayPal account to pay with PayPal, you can pay with just a credit card if you wish. After payment, you will be redirected back to Etsy automatically.

Note that you must go to PayPal for each seller. Etsy will track how many payments are remaining and you will know payment is complete when see a green check mark under your items.

FAQ

How do I pay with a credit card?

You can pay with a credit card at PayPal. You do not need to set up a PayPal account to pay with a credit card.

I would like to pay with PayPal, but I don't have a PayPal account. Do I need to set one up before checkout?

No. Simply click Pay with PayPal (from Step 5) and you will be taken to PayPal, where you will be prompted to set up an account.

The transaction is complete, but I don't see the transaction in PayPal. What's up?

You have not payed for this purchase yet. To pay:

Go to Your Etsy.
Click Purchases.
Next to the item, click receipt.
Click Pay with PayPal and complete the transaction

How do I resolve issues with my purchase?

First, contact the seller via Conversation (Convo) to try to work it out. If there are still issues, you may contact Support.

Why am I required to register before being able to buy anything?

Our feedback system relies on being able to identify the parties involved in every transaction. Your username is the unique identifier which makes this possible.

Etsy uses U.S. dollars. How do I handle currency conversions?

PayPal and credit card transactions will automatically convert your currency. All other transactions (check and money order) should be calculated by you and the seller.

An item in my cart show a gray square and has a listing price of $0.00. What gives?

This item is no longer available. Please check back in that shop as many sellers relist items that have sold out.

I got this message at checkout: "Error: You have a listing in your cart with a quantity of zero. This can happen when the seller edits the listing while it's still in your cart. Click here to revise your quantity. What do I do?

Click to revise the quantity. You will be redirected to the beginning page of your checkout. Find the item listed with a quantity of zero, and change the quantity back to 1 or more. You may now go on to purchase your item!
