Antique German Demitasse Cups and Saucers. 1920s Porcelain Lustreware

These exquisite little cups and saucers were made in Germany for Farberware and imported to the United States sometime between the 1920's and 1930's.

The tiny demitasse cups are less than 2 inches tall. Made of fine porcelain, they are incredibly delicate. The glaze on the cups incorporates a thin metallic film. This finish is known as lustreware.

When gas lights became common in homes, lustreware was all the rage because of how it caught the reflection of the lights. Hostesses would put their lustreware serving pieces on mirrors to enhance the effect.

The cups and saucers are mauve, maroon, light green and royal blue.Thin lines of gold outline the rims of color. Swirls of gold accent the handles. The porcelain is very fine, thin and delicate. You simply have to touch them.

Beautiful little pieces in perfect condition.

Aren't tea parties fun?
