This bowl is fairly large, good for a big helping or serving a side dish. It has a several layers of slips and simple decorations. A bright piece in person and a yellow interior glaze.
This piece was fired in a soda kiln. Its surface is a result from both soda licking across its surface and the iron showing through the slip. Soda contains sodium and melts at these high temperatures; of 2050-2150 degrees to become like a vaporized glaze in the kiln. All my pots are sanded by hand to give a soft feel and make them more friendly to use. The interiors are lined with glaze and the clay is vitrified. They are safe to use, but I recommend handling with care, but encourage using them.
My pots are either made on the wheel or made over a mold. Each piece is unique, both in surface and form. I often trim off the wheel using a rasp and other tools to develop a subtle corner or edge to my work. Although some pots are trimmed on the wheel. My pots contain subtle information of each process, whether there are scrape marks, finger prints, drips, edges or other intended information of the making process.
