This is a wonderful vintage diamond solitaire necklace...estimated to be from the 1940's to the 1950's or so.....
** Originally Priced at $399.00! **
Crafted of solid 14K white gold, this necklace features a single high quality round brilliant cut diamond prong-set into an illusion style setting which makes it appear even larger! The diamond is approximately 4 mm in diameter and is super clean, bright and fiery. (much more so than I could capture in my photos) It is estimated to be approximately .25 carats and it looks like it's an early modern brilliant cut to me. I would judge the color to be in the H-I range of near-colorless and the clarity is very good....completely eye-clean and clean under my 14x loupe.....a jeweler who looked at this stone estimated it to be VS2, and I agree that it is very nice quality.
The open backed illusion style setting is slightly concave, approximately 6.8mm in diameter, with the diamond set in the center. There are eight prongs...they do show wear with two prongs especially needing to be retipped. The others are in better condition, but I would recommend having all the tips touched up to keep this diamond safe.
The diamond setting is stationary - placed in the middle of a sturdy and elegant 14K white gold curb chain. The total length with the setting is just a hair under 16 inches. The total weight of the necklace is a nice 2.60 grams.
The clasp is marked "585" which is the European mark for 14K gold. In very good vintage condition, with only light superficial wear to the gold, and wear to the prongs as noted above....this is a lovely necklace of classic design....it will always be in style!
