This beautiful gold tone Brooch is old and rare! It is iron filled and has a gold-tone finish. A sheaf of ripe wheat, the stalks are bound together with rope and the ripe, heavy heads of wheat are bursting out on top in a bouquet of a bounteous harvest! It is a very unusual brooch!
I am not sure what the metal plating is, it looks like it could be a brass alloy. The Brooch is stamped "5" on the back, there are no other markings. The number "5" jewelry trademark was issued by the US patent office the first year they started issuing them for jewelry in 1836.
The front of the brooch is in Excellent Condition, however, someone did glue the pin on the back in place some time later. From the look of the pin I would guess it was sometime between 1930 and 1950, or else someone did it later using an old brooch pin. They did not do a great job and some glue leaked out while it set (clearly visible in the photo). However, this is still a lovely piece, a professional may be able to remove the pin and glue, I would not try it myself though.
The brooch is 1 3/4" tall, and 1" wide.
