This pendant depicts the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, a mother goddesses. As a female counterpart of Lord Vishnu, Mata Lakshmi is also called 'Shri', the female energy of the Supreme Being. She is the goddess of prosperity, wealth, purity, generosity, and the embodiment of beauty, grace and charm.
Look at the delicate details in this exquisite rendering, like fine lace. The resemblance to old ivory is quite close. She has been lightly antiqued. The actual pendant is a diminutive 1.75 inches not including the bale above her head
This pendant is designed and made by Robin Nolls,(http://www.etsy.com/shop/missionnow?ref=seller_info) who has a shop right here on Etsy. The material is designed to mimic ivory in appearance and weight - no animal lost its life in order for you to have this pendant.
The beads include beautiful graduated, faceted sapphires and iolite.
The delicate tribal - metal beads are Thai, and vintage. The finish appears to be silver with a gold wash over the silver, which has worn off in places. This kind of bead is made of hardened wax or resin, with a sheet of .999 silver applied over the basic form. This way the beads don't dent easily and are still lightweight.
22kt. gold coated glass seed beads between the stones.
Photo 5 shows a close up - note that two beads are slightly dented, common in vintage beads of this sort that have been worn or stored.
