Braided rugs have thread or cording, which can eventually wear out.
Crocheted rugs are softer and more primitive and can last generations,
as they have in our family.
Why this folk art is unique:
HANDMADE BY MY 89 YEAR OLD ARTIST MOM:
"I launder vintage fabrics, then cut everything
into narrow strips which are sewn together
end-to-end on my vintage 1800's treadle sewing machine.
There are no loose ends or hard knots to step on.
The balls of fabric are then hand crocheted.
I don't buy balls of fabric, but make all of my own from
repurposed fabrics in my house.
100% wool fabric for softness and durability.
"Crochet rugs are a family tradition.
My Mother, born in the late 1800's, used to make these rugs.
We are still using her beautiful rugs today; they last for decades."
I make only a few rugs over the long upstate New York winters, in my farmhouse."
"Cats, dogs, and people alike will love the softness of this rug."
Sophistication in a cottage style crocheted rug.
