This little silver brooch is reserved for Tina and has a pretty star burst pattern in relief and a photo locket compartment on the back so that you can keep a secret photograph of your sweetheart hidden from view. Sweetheart brooches were extremely popular in the Victorian era and an increase in manufacturing capabilities in jewellery districts including Birmingham led to many young people buying them as affordable trinkets. There are no hallmarks on this brooch but it has got a percentage of silver content.
This brooch still has the original photo compartment (many are lost) with the original glass and paper to keep the photograph safe.
The brooch measures 2.6 cm across and has a C-clasp and barrel hinge.
