I used translucent polymer clay mixed with gold foil leafing over the outside of a clear green glass vase. Small cobble stone textures were applied all over using stamping giving an earthy texture. The colors are blendings of alcohol inks. Over top of the clayworks on the vase a coating of clear liquid polymer clay was applied to lock in the inks. The green you see on the body of the vase is the green glass under the translucent poly clay.
The spiral stairway is created from vintage glass cabochons. The stairway leads up to a sculpted tree that clings to the top of the vase.
The tree trunk has some subtle feminine appointments worked in. The tree and branches arch out from the vase and beads cascade down from the brances. The root system clings to the inside and outside of top edge of the vase. Trunk and branches are reinforced with Wireform brass rod for strength.
Many types of gemstone beads and my own handmade beads are suspended from the branches. The beaded wires can be posed a bit to hang straight down or they can be gently shaped to look like they are moving a bit in the breeze.
The piece is 14” H at the tallest polymer clay branch (not including the height when filled with floral stems).
When filling the vase with water water level should be kept well below the polymer clay work near the top rim area. When floral fillers are added, weight does need to be added in the bottom of the vase (marbles, river rock or sand.)
