This pendant used to be part of a spoon handle! Solid sterling silver and set with a gorgeously faceted Rhodolite Garnet gemstone, this piece of former flatware has been transformed into a totally unique piece of jewelry that's sure to catch some eyes!
The original spoon featured a gorgeous, Art Nouveau style lily flower, with incredible amounts of detail front and back. The pendant is also subtley curved, giving it a dynamic three-dimensional appearance that jumps from the background. Darkened detail lines help the design pop, and the silver has been polished to a beautifully reflective high shine.
The accent stone is a 4mm garnet of the Rhodolite variety, which means that it is still January's official birthstone but it's more of a yummy plum color (purpley red) instead of the traditional brick red. The stone's unique Rose cut gives it lots of facets for tons of sparkle, and it sits high up in its setting to catch more light than a normally cut stone.
The gem is carefully bezel set in a hand made setting that fits super tightly, leaving no wiggle room whatsoever, and I never use glue to set my stones. There are no gaps between the setting and the garnet, and the back of the bezel is open to encourage more light to shine through.
The piece is about 1" tall by .75" wide at its widest (or approximately 2.5cm x 1.9cm), with good solid-feeling weight without being too heavy. Very easy to wear but very hard to go unnoticed. Comes on a thin 18" sterling silver starter chain, ready to wear.
