Poppet is only 11 1/2" tall and is made of cloth with 12 points of articulation. Her body is ribbon jointed in a unique way that keeps her limbs aligned properly.
Her paperclay head and neck is a very simple sculpt, built over an aluminum foil and wood dowel armature. The paperclay sculpt extends to create a shoulderplate, which is formed right over the cloth torso. If you have been wanting to try paperclay, this project would be a nice way to get a good feel for the medium, since the sculpt is very simple, and you only need 2 ounces of paperclay to make this doll.
Section 1: My instructions will take you through the sewing and construction Poppet's body, plus sculpting her head, neck and shoulder plate. You will be taken through all the steps to paint a sweet face.
Section 2: I will guide you through all the steps to creating Poppet's complete costume, just as you see in the photos. This section will also explain how to use the Tibetan Lamb locks to create her wig; plus, I will talk about some of the other wigging options available to you.
Section 3: Poppet sits on a tiny weathered wooden crate garden seat, made especially for her. It has a small doll stand hidden inside, a shabby chic seat cushion on top for her to sit on, and a pretty flower garden, made from satin ribbons, growing at her feet. In Section 3 of the tutorial I will take you through all the steps to make this custom piece for your Poppet.
