One summer day two young people go bike riding. They roam the countryside enjoying the day.
They both decide to rest in the park and there they meet. It is love at first sight. A summer romance is born. Summer Romance quilt is comprised of 6- 12 inch blocks with borders. It uses raw edge applique which frays when washed. This results in a rustic, folk look to the quilt. This style of quilt block is designed to be free easy and not perfect in any way. That makes it charming!

Materials:
1 ¾ yard (1.7m) of print fabric for borders. I used Alexander Henry “park &ride” because of its bright colors and bicycle motifs.
2 yards (1.8m) pink flannel solid
2 yards (1.8m) green flannel solid
1 yard (.91m) blue flannel solid
1 ½ yards (1.5m) orange flannel solid
3/8 yard (35cm) each of purple and yellow flannel solids.
1 and 1/8 yard (1. 03m) white flannel for the middle layer of the quilt.
Assorted small pieces of cotton fabric for the appliques in blue, 2 greens , red, brown, black, white, pink, and yellow
White marking pencil
Sewing machine with darning foot or free motion quilting foot
Sharp scissors
Thin point black permanent marker for facial features.

-WHAT IS FREE-MOTION QUILTING?
Free motion quilting is so much fun and easy with a little practice. You replace the straight stitch foot on any standard sewing machine with a darning or quilting foot.( It has a round circle opening or is sometimes an open half-circle) Then lower the feed dogs (The tread under the foot). Lowering the feed dogs allows you to move the fabric in all directions as you sew. By having the freedom to move the fabric you can make tight turns as you sew-- even sew your name in cursive! In many of my patterns free-motion quilting and attaching the appliques happens at the same time, saving time and giving a beautiful pattern on the back of the quilt.
