Up for sale is the Alfred Philippe for Trifari, Clair De Lune, moonstone demi lune and rhinestone necklace done in faux moonstones, sapphire blue baguettes and clear rhinestones.
MARKINGS: The back is signed Trifari with the crown over the T. I have also included the patent in the listing that is number 158,788 and dated May 30, 1950. Page 182 of Julia Carroll's "Costume Jewelry 202" states that the ad for this necklace named "For a Jewel of a Mother" included seven different jewelry items that were featured for Spring 1950/ In the ad, the demi lunes are referred to as "pseudo-moonstones". She states further that (translated into English, the phase Clair de Lune means "moonlight" or light of the moon." It is also a term used to describe a pale grayish blue glaze used for some Chinese porcelain.)
DESCRIPTION: The necklace is done in a gold plated base metal with sapphire blue baguettes and square cut stones, moonstone demi lune cabochons and clear rhinestones. It is a pendant style necklace and measures 20" from end to end including the closed fold over clasp and the pendant itself. The pendant itself measures 2 1/8" x 2 5/8" long. The stones are all hand set and prong set on the demi lunes. The chain is an omega style box chain that is very made and attached with the special Trifari rings.
CONDITION: The metal is in excellent condition with some light wear to the back of the pendant. The stones are all present, bright and shiny. It could use a gentle cleaning as I have only given it a light one for photo purposes only.
