This lavishly decorated 'shabby chic' ornament is a slab of earthenware totally encrusted with flowers and leaves - they spill out on all sides, vibrant and over-blown, in all colours.
It is very much like a ceramic version of Barbola gesso paste, as used on mirrors in the early 20th century. Maybe it was intended as a corner piece on a mirror or picture frame, or maybe part of a larger display piece - now, it is a charming 3D corner 'flower bed' to sit on your dresser or in a tableau of other interesting objets d'art and brighten up your day.
Although the piece is intact and the base is fine, there are many small damaged areas, leaves with the tips missing, half-petals, etc - but someone has lovingly re-touched all the damage - and to be honest, you wouldn't know unless you looked closely. This is not for someone who wants perfection - but if you like uniqueness and individuality or colour and verve, maybe this is for you. You certainly won't find another like it!
Each side measures about 5", and the arms are about 1.5" wide with the flower petals included. It is marked only with Made in England.
It weighs 233 gms, and I estimate the packaged weight will be around 600 gms.
