1960's, early 70's wrap skirt with hand embroidered Voodoo design.
Wonderful and rare Haitian skirt.
This is a hand embroidered garment from
Jacqueline Couture, Port-au-Prince.
This amazing skirt is embroidered with a dramatic design
that resembles a Voodoo image of... a devil? Maybe.
The embroidery is actually signed by the artist...
I'm not sure that's the correct spelling.
It's difficult to make out the letters.
If anyone has any information on this artist I'd appreciate hearing.
I've included a photograph of the signature.
This is a blue cotton wrap skirt with waist band tie.
Very simple a line design...
with a slightly adjustable size.
Label: Jacqueline Couture, Place D'Italie, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Excellent vintage condition. Two tiny marks that may be slight stains or just part of the fabric which has a slightly nubby texture and a bit of a variation in the weave and color. These are part of the nature of the material and gives this skirt a wonderful authentic quality.
This is a wrap garment and so it can be a bit larger and smaller than these measurements.
Note: Haiti still needs our help to recover from it's devastating earthquake. 20% of the proceeds from sale of this garment will be sent for Haitian Relief.
