Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) is an extinct flightless bird that lived in the island of Mauritius. It was a big bird genetically related to pigeons and doves. Perhaps its friendly vegetarian nature was the reason it got extinct within 80 years after it first met a human. Dodo’s painful destiny has inspired people to pay more attention to preservation of endangered species.
Don't be afraid to be special and stand out with this cool Dodo brooch:)
This over-sized beaded brooch is made from colorful seed beads and its appropriate for many occasions - for party and as well for your everyday outfits.
The brooch is 16 cm (6,3 inches) tall and 12 cm (4,7 inches) wide at its widest points.
The beads are sewn on thin (double layered) felt and is attachable to your clothing (bag or anything else you like to) with two usual brooch pins.

The summer 2012 collection „The Last Dodo” is a tribute to colors, fun and most of all- birds. The collection consists of pieces in each of which one endangered species of birds is featured.
Birds have been a huge inspiration for Malvine.lv since forever. This time while creating a concept for Sumer 2012 collection I decided that it is time to give back to our flying friends.
There are about 400 endangered bird species in the world (and that is just the globally endangered ones, there are still species that are special local concern). Most of the endangerment is caused by the actions of men – is it the agricultural or other economical activities, climate change or hunting.
The collection name is inspired by mysterious and unfortunately already few hundred years extinct bird – Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) which as well is featured in the collection as a brooch. Last dodo died just after 80 years people had first discovered it. I think that Dodos terrifying destiny must be taken as an impulse for helping the ones that are still cheering us with their songs and looks.
