An enchanting original 1950’s party dress in soft baby pink tulle trimmed with sequins. The style typifies the 50’s - oh so feminine and figure flattering - perfect to accentuate a narrow waist. There are three layers to the fabric – a matching baby pink satin lining, a middle single layer of pink tulle to give the skirt extra body, topped with a floating overlayer of baby pink tulle. Maker’s label reads “ appi “ It appears to have been partially cut, and I suspect it originally read “Rappi”, a manufacturer of party dresses during the 1950’s – 1960’s. No fabric contents label but this is likely a synthetic blend.
Note the special details on this lovely dress – wrapped tulle bodice with sequin trim accent, plunging neckline, barely there spaghetti straps studded with sequins, and especially the fabulous twirling tulle skirt, trimmed with strings of iridescent metallic sequins. Note the dress is photographed using an additional crinoline to show the skirt to full advantage – the crinoline is not included.
The dress closes down the rear with a hidden metal zipper. The entire dress is lined in a matching baby pink satin acetate.
No vintage size label, but please see measurements below for proper fit. This is a small size which would best fit a modern size 2 or 4.
Bust – 35-36”
Waist – 24-25” (possibly 26” with a tight squeeze)
Hips – full
Length – 42.5”
Torso length (strapless) – 10.5”
Skirt length (waist to hem) – 32”
This dress is in excellent vintage condition. No holes or stains and underarms are clean. The tulle is still reasonably crisp with no visible tears. The only minor mention is a small section of the hemline on the outer tulle layer which is slightly shorter than the rest. I suspect it was damaged and trimmed at some point. This is relatively inconspicuous given the volume of fabric.
