Elsa Schiaparelli was a greatly respected and admired designer who was known for sophisticated, often wildly eccentric pieces that garnered her a huge following. She collaborated with great artists such as Salvador Dalí, Cocteau and the great jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger.
At the center of this brooch is a huge domed fancy cut round watermelon tourmaline rhinestone that sparkles with all the colors of the rainbow. This stone is set into a decorative gold tone framework with an enclosed back. A gold tone bezel textured with a hammered effect connects thirteen large prong set watermelon tourmaline rhinestones that have a beautiful cut. The stones are all wildly colorful and sparkly. These stones have an open back bezel setting, revealing unblemished gold foil backs.
This brooch features a straight pin back with a rolling "C" clasp. The brooch is signed "Schiaparelli" in an oval cartouche on the reverse.
