Saint Michael is often considered to be the field commander of God's Army and he is sometimes referred to as "Archistrategos" which translates to "Supreme Commander of the Heavenly Hosts".
The Orthodox believe the angels to be incorporeal beings, created by God before the actual creation. They are immortal, not by nature but by the grace of God, and are called "second lights," the first light being God Himself. Their nature was originally changeable, but after the Incarnation of Christ, the angels were considered as saved and, therefore, unaltered. The Fathers believed that every believer has his own "guardian angel"- the angels pray for us, sing, and unceasingly glorify the Holy Trinity. They also serve as examples that people should follow.
ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE:
This miniature icon is painted on ceramic tile found by the Aegean Sea in Turkey. The tile piece is unique and naturally smooth shaped by the sea waves. I applied stucco canvas before painting the image with tempera paints and gold leaf. The image was sealed with glossy finish so it is protected and safe to be cleaned.
*Please message me if you want a hole drilled at the top! Some of my other miniatures have holes so you can use them as a pendants, hang them on a wall or anywhere in your home as decoration.
No two miniature icons are alike, each is unique and painted with great care to make a treasured gift for yourself, your home or a loved one.
The icon measures approx: tad over 2 inches long and a 2 wide (5.7 x5 cm)
It comes in a beautiful gift box and is ready for gift giving.
Message me if you want your icon made into pendant necklace with clasp closure!
