Crow quill nib pens are great for calligraphy, especially for copperplate and spencerian type script. The tubular design of the crown quill goes back nearly two centuries where steel pens were made to fit over a round, straight wooden holder.

The famous dip pen nib manufacturer Joseph Gillott made crow quill pens too. They are very fine and very flexible and they are ideal and "so beautifully made that they will respond to a big sweeping stroke." Crow quills were intended for draftsmen and lithographers and would hold more ink than a mapping pen.
