This piece is created from driftwood as well as wood recovered from a ship wrecked off the coast of Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Massive nails from the same wreck form the mane, and a rough, rusted chain, the tail. I use the wood as I find it, without sawing or changing the shape, I place and juxtapose the pieces until the final image emerges. The secret, concealed shelf which hides treasured love letters or photographs of loved ones, appealed to my romantic nature.
