This rustic vintage art pottery bowl is so beautiful I almost kept if for my shelf. It is handthrown stoneware. The drip glaze reminds me of the Mediterranean Sea with shiny dark teal tones, green in some areas and dark streaks, making the color variation striking. The artistic design is naturally created by leaving the natural stone unglazed in a pattern all the way around the bowl. I found this bowl at a fundraiser sale. The items for sale came from many sources. The pottery bowl is marked on the bottom (photo #5) "EW" and "73" which could be the year made, or the production #. The mark is a mystery to me. You could turn the pot around and the mark would read "EL" and "M3". I am not familiar with the maker in either case. The mark is etched into the clay. This is a fine piece of vintage art pottery no matter where it was produced.
5 1/2" h
4 1/2"w across the mouth
6 1/2" w across the bottom
There are no chips or cracks. If you collect pottery pieces and like quality handthrown rustic stoneware, this bowl will not disappoint you! The proportions are perfect and the mouth is smooth and round. It would look wonderful on a fireplace mantle. It is very heavy (apprx 4 to 5lbs) so I will ship it by insured parcel post and use lots of packing material.
