Does this mean this rolling pin isn't functional? No, it is functional. It is made from one solid piece of hardwood and is very durable. If taken care of properly this could last a lifetime, or several!
The surface was polished extremely smooth with fine sandpaper. The handles were turned to match each other as closely as possible in size, length and shape.
One handle and side of this rolling pin has some figured grain because it was right at the edge of a very large burl. This adds interest to the piece and makes it even more unique. The grain on that side is iridescent in the light.
The maple was bought in New York state.
