Small Sized "Pocket Runes", Natural *Apple* Wood Rune Set!

This is a stunningly beautiful rune set I made in the traditional way from a single continuous length of Apple wood. They're small enough to be very easily carried in a pocket or bag, ensuring that you can have your favourite divination tools to hand at all times. Each rune is a little slice of the branch and still has the rich brown bark attached. The wood has been properly seasoned and has attained the beautiful mellow shade so typical of all fruit wood and each flat face is silky smooth to the touch. According to widely held belief, fruit wood is the "correct" and traditional wood to use for runes. Whether or not that's the case (and I don't think there's any way of proving it one way or the other) Apple wood is certainly an excellent choice for small items that get a lot of wear and tear as it's an immensely dense and hard wearing wood... in fact, it's so hard that it was used for the cog teeth in wooden mill machinery before the use of cast iron became widespread. The symbols are burned into the surface of the wood so they won’t wear away or chip off, and each rune is finished with a light coat of oil so they won’t stick together if you keep them in a warm pocket as they might if they’d been waxed. As always, I've burnt the symbols on the plainest side of each tablet to ensure they can be clearly read, and so you can appreciate the full glory of the colouring and grain patterns in the backs. I don’t feel it’s appropriate to use power tools of any kind in the crafting of magical items, so all the sawing and sanding on these was done by muscle power alone. I won’t use an electric pyrography tool either, so each symbol is made by heating in a flame various metal straight lines of different lengths before applying them to the bare wood. I feel it’s more respectful of the ancestors to use their methods whenever practical, despite the arm ache and burnt fingers, and I appreciate the feeling of continuity generated by forming part of an unbroken chain of makers and users of these items that can be felt stretching back through the centuries. Paradoxically, this set includes the blank or wyrd rune, although I know it’s a modern addition and not everyone uses it. Also included are two blank, sanded but not oiled, spare tablets, for you to make into personal bindrunes or talismans... but as usual, I forgot to include them in the photos!

As you will probably be aware by now, I do not include either a bag or instructions with my runes. This is because the bag you keep them in should be made by you, sewn by hand and preferably fashioned from an article of your old clothing in order to strengthen the bond you have with them. As for instructions, the amount of information I could realistically include in a give away leaflet would be totally insufficient for the novice and completely irrelevant for the experienced caster so it makes sense not to waste the paper. However, you do get the usual list of the magical properties of the wood, picture and care instructions that come with all my items.

Apple is probably the best choice for any kind of fertility spells, or any magic to do with increase, plenty or abundance. It is a good protector of the home and cultivated land, and is said to be good for gardening magic. Traditionally, the home of the Unicorn is said to be beneath the Apple tree, and it is also where he is most easily caught. Legend tells us if a pure young woman sits quietly under an Apple tree, the Unicorn will come and gently lay his head in her lap and allow her to feed him apples.
