This wheel thrown, one of a kind, orb shaped vase is perfect for any dwelling in need of a beautiful piece of three dimensional art. It’s unique, organic, and abstract decoration is due to being firing in a Downdraft Stovepipe style barrel kiln.
The sensual buttery surface is naked clay painted with a superfine clay slip and burnished. Then the piece is subjected to the fire of the barrel kiln. One never knows exactly what design the fire, smoke, and the variety of combustible materials used will leave behind on the surface of the work. This particular piece’s coloration involves white, beige, black, rusty orange, light orange, slate, and smokey grays.
Pieces fired in the downdraft stovepipe barrel kiln are generally for decorative purposes only. Simply use a damp dust cloth for cleaning. They are not intended for use with food, and they are not sealed for water tightness. For use with fresh flowers I recommend slipping a thin, small glass inside the vase to hold the water.
