As I live only 40 mins by car from Lourdes the Catholic Pilgrim town, it is inevitable that I find some vintage rosaries as thousands of new ones are sold there each year.
This is an incredibly large late Victorian, or early Edwardian, hand carved and hand made ebonised wooden rosary which dates from around 1900. I am pretty certain it is made of a fruit wood, but I confess I am no expert.
Some people call these Nuns rosaries, however, I have been unable, through my research, to confirm if this is correct, although, to be fair, the size is right for wearing around ones waist.
Please see the pictures for the inscriptions on this rosary.
PLEASE NOTE......There are some minor chips on some wood parts.
Very large....i.e overall length is approx 44 inches long folded with the two sides together and icluding the crucifix. The overall diam (excluding) the hanging part with the crucifix is approx 69 inches. The crucifix is approx 3.25 by just under two inches. That all sounds incredibly confusing to me but it is very large.
