A really delightful Quirky piece of Antique HONITON hand made bobbin lace, a lovely shape suitable for any Special Occasion.
The lacemaker who designed this must have stood in an English meadow in midsummer and designed this Bertha as she saw the Flora and butterflies.
It has all kinds of wild flowers and 14 butterflies just added at random and rather naive which I like.
The term Bertha is another name for a shaped lace flounce which was worn on the mid Victorian dresses with a scooped out neckline.
Queen Victoria wore a Honiton neck flounce on her wedding dress in 1840 and this would serve the same purpose on a modern day Wedding dress, it would look just wonderful and so very unique.
I have collected and sold lace for well over 25 years and I know very well that Honiton lace can vary tremendously but this piece rates as UNIQUE a real collectors piece and will always hold its antique value in the future.
It is well designed and expertly executed, clean with no repairs or damage and ready to apply.
It is antique cream in colour and could be gently hand soaked if you wanted to make lighter.
Would be ideal to be used on a modern special occasion dress.
