Icarus Rising is a sculpture for the wall in two parts. Together they are 12 feet long. A large circle is described in slices of driftwood layered together in a way that suggests feathers. The background is heavily textured white paint. There is a visual relationship between the textured paint and the sun-kissed patina of the driftwood feathers. The un-completed circle suggests the shape of two wings hence the name of the piece. Icarus was boy of Greek myth who donned feather and wax wings to escape his Island confines with his father, Daedalus. Usually in art the story of Icarus is a cautionary tale because Icarus' wings melted when he flew too close to the sun and he fell to his death. I, however, am exploring the sheer joy he must have felt as he soar above the ground and sea. The white paint and the uplifted shape and the large scale help describe his exalted emotion in abstract. Though it can be displayed temporarily outdoors, it would be best and is design for interior hanging. It hangs from two cleats attached to the wall which is a very stable and easy way to hang. This sculpture packs quite a punch and would be great in the lobby of a bank, doctors office, or other commercial space. It would be an absolute show stopper in a home with at least a 15 foot run of wall. It will be shipped in two separate crates by uship.com in the US for the lowest bid. For international shipping we will have to find a price through a freight logistics company. The price does not include shipping.
