The Jessie Jane dolls have a more grown up shape, smaller head narrow waist and wide hips. The shape is inspired by early cloth dolls and antique fashion dolls who often had porcelain heads and cloth bodies and fabulous wardrobes. So these young ladies are following in a long history of well dressed dolls. Jessie Jane is my childhood name.
This Jessie Jane is Sylvia she has a dark brown linen body with hand knitted wool hair and hand embroidered features that reference early painted faces of both cloth and porcelain dolls with thick eyebrows small eyes and rosebud lips. She is constructed from my own pattern, raw edges and stitches are left exposed as evidence of her cloth construction and as a historical reference to primitive dolls and home made rag dolls, I think these slightly unstructured details add character and life whilst expressing the materials used.
Sylvia's clothes are removable, a pretty sun dress made from a beautiful floral print vintage cotton/viscose, this piece of fabric was left over from my mums dress making business and dates from the early to mid 1970s, fine striped socks and a vintage silk neck scarf circa 1940s. She is approx. 21" or 53 cm tall and polyester filled.
Sylvia is not suitable for young children due to small parts and delicate construction.
