This design was inspired by the dramatic necklaces worn by African women belonging to many tribes, and is all about making a strong design & color statement.
The beads are a variety of warm colors...honey, saffron, cinnamon, chili, dark chocolate and turmeric. Ive added a couple of bone and old Naga shell discs to shake things up a bit, without stealing the show. The spacers are artisan crafted brass by my buddy Michael Tarillion, here on Etsy . I hand patina-ed them in several stages - a messy smelly endeavor...suffering for my art yet again ; ).
There is an opening at the end of each spacer. In a well lit space, light will filter through this opening, almost like a spark, as the wearer moves (or when a viewers glances while passing by). This is subtle detail and adds a fleeting, almost subconscious impression - something is different, but what? Result: the viewer looks twice...important for those of us who love beads and have fun just showing them off to one another.
The beads are Tibetan resin, a few vintage most contemporary. The process required to create the appearance of age is an art, requiring several steps.
PHOTOS 4 & 5 display this listing with a 2nd necklace. This strand of leaf shaped fetishes is Naga, hand made by Naga crafstmen, authentic, but also recent - probably not more than 20 years or so. The pendants are thin but sturdy. Not heavy as pewter is, but made from some sort of bronze or brass, restrung on a simple woven fiber strand. This necklace is available ($95.00) - convo if you'd like me to list it for you. REWARD FOR READING THIS FAR: Both for $360.00...convo before ordering and Ill make a special listing that includes both, at the special price, for you.
THIS LISTING IS FOR THE LARGE BEADED NECKLACE ONLY
