Short Story Long:
Yes, you read that correctly. This rug is woven out of a mixture of wool and GOAT hair. It gives almost a shaggy texture to the pile. Where you can really see and feel the goat hair is in the fringe where it is spun with wool to make the foundation of the rug.
This piece was made in Shiraz, the city of wine, poets and lovers. That's why it is beckoning you to buy it. The piece is in a color scheme that in Farsi is referred to as "khod rang," meaning color of itself. All the colors, the ivory, brown, tan, black, etc., are not dyed colors, but rather the original colors of the sheep whose wool was used to create this rug. Because of its sturdy wool construction, and slightly longer than usual rectangular design, a rug like this would work great in a foyer or weird shaped hall. It will be able to take heavy traffc, and you'll be able to will it to your kids. Win win for all!
