Vintage facsimile of a sketch drawing of a plant from Maranhao (Brazil) identified by the author as Quiinha. It might be an indigenous pepper plant but it has not been clearly identified.
Frei Cristovao de Lisboa spent a few years in Brazil as a missionary (1625-1631) and during that time he made sketches of the flora and fauna of the region. Later, those illustrations were kept as a manuscript "Historia dos animais e árvores de Maranhao" in an Archive in Lisboa, Portugal. In 1967 the archive produced a book with facsimile prints of Frei Cristovao's sketch drawings.. This vintage print is from that facsimile edition.
The original are drawings in pencil and covered in ink.
Size: approx. 9" by 12"
In excellent condition. It is printed on thick paper. The uneven borders and darker areas that you see are in the original drawing that is reproduced in this vintage facsimile.
This is the actual page from a 1967 book, not a reproduction.
