This is part of a slightly more practical range of unisex multi-purpose magical jewelry. It comprises of a pendulum or pendant or mini wand and a matching bead made from the same length of wood strung on a waxed cotton cord. The idea is that you can wear it without drawing attention to yourself, but still have magical tools immediately to hand should you need them. I don't think the function of pendant really needs explaining, and it can be used just like a regular wand without even removing it from around your neck. But if you decide to use it as a dowsing pendulum you simply slide the bead to the knotted ends of the cord to provide a good hand hold with the free-swinging motion so vital to pendulum use. The bead is cut from the top of the pendulum, to retain the consistency of energy flow through the two parts combined. I can make these to order in any wood I have available, so if you like the idea but would prefer a different type of wood just convo me.
This piece is made from Blackthorn, with the very dark and glossy, slightly wrinkled bark retained on both the pendulum and the bead. The smooth, dark honey coloured wood exposed at each end makes a wonderful contrast to the bark, both in looks and touch, and a large knot on the side of the bead adds interest. It is beautiful simply as a piece of jewelry, but add to that its value as a protection charm and its usefulness as a wand or pendulum and I think it qualifies as a very special item indeed!
Also known as Quickthorn or Sloe. Blackthorn provides very strong protection, especially of the home, and can be used in magic to deter unwanted visitors. It is said to protect against malevolent magic. It can also be used in exorcism.
