Perhaps my very favorite cloche in this Downton Abbey inspired collection, is this very feminine tribute to Lady Almina Carnarvon, the original Countess of Highclere Castle, whose character is portrayed as Lady Cora Grantham, in the ever popular PBS series.
I have handblocked this parasisal cloche over a vintage wooden hatblock, with a free form pleated crown. A second layer of gossamer sinamay, in a rich warm hue of sienna, adds a bit of volume to the crown, and is drawn into pleats at the side, that follow the pleating of the parasisal. A rich, cotton vintage lace drapes as the hatband, with restored vintage 1940's millinery flowers as the lush focal point. The brim is wired for a strong edge, and hand dyed grosgrain ribbon is painstakingly sewn on the edge of the brim by hand. At about 10 stitches or more to the inch, on a 40 inch circumference brim, that's approximately 400 stitches.
A very beautiful one of a kind piece of couture millinery, that will keep the sun off your face, and yet, breathes enough to keep you cool in the hottest climates. You'll feel like a million dollars---before taxes of course!!
