Once upon a time, this jar contained "Seville Oranges and Sugar", Oxford marmalade made by Frank Cooper LTD in Oxford England possibly dating back to early 1900's. English street scene with Tudor style building design on front and back of jar. Scene features a large inn named "The Jolly Grover" and a bridge and a man and woman in the foreground. In the distance is another couple and a horse-drawn wagon.
Bottom backstamped in green ink "Sandland Ware, Lancaster & Sandland LTD, Hanley, Staffordshire England. A pair of hands pictured in a handshake is part of the back stamp. THE NUMBER 511 is also incised on the bottom.
Jar is in great vintage condition, no cracks or chips but a little crazing however, but is very old.
This jar is heavy, stands about 4 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches wide..
A VERY HANDSOME jar on a desk to hold pencils, paperclips, erasers etc. TOO!
