My first encounter with this quote was in the movie theatre, as a young and starry-eyed teenager. My headlong topple into Tolkien's books afterward led to a genuine Lord of the Rings obsession, but I think some credit is due to Peter Jackson and his team for having the good sense to use what Tolkien had already written when they set about making his books into movies. I remember hearing this line, in Bilbo's voice, and wishing that I could pause the movie to find a pen and jot it down.
This mug is an interesting one: It's somewhat short and wide, with a white base and interior, and sweeping strokes of black and brown glaze descending from the rim. For this reason, I thought the average man would not feel disinclined to drink from it, and therefore painted a man-friendly quote on it. Of course, that isn't to say it's not for women, too; it's perfect for any Tolkien fan.
For those with wanderlust or those without, and especially for Hobbits.
All of my work is done with heat-set ceramic paint, and will do very well with dishwashers and the ordinary passage of time. I would, however, recommend against the use of strong abrasives.
