The gorgeous walnut and maple woods have a cut work design and the posts are about chest height and at least 6" at the widest circumference. Very solid, sturdy furniture. The age is about 1930's.
Although it was originally designed as a full size bed, by adding extra length side rails it will take a queen size mattress if you so desire. Side rails not available, but they can be purchased at a local furniture store and hook into the headboard and foot board at posts.
This piece was shown in a showcase house and I used a queen size air mattress, so you can see it accomodates the width & length easily.
