Antique Portieux Vallerysthal Blue Milk Glass Opaline Decanter, French, early 1900s...
A tall blue milk glass decanter made by Portieux et Vallerysthal (sometimes spelled Vallerystahl) in France. This type of glass is known as opaline or opal. The pressed pattern on the decanter and stopper features ornate raised medallions and other embossed decorations. The long neck is panel ribbed, while the lower section of the bottle has a thumbprint type pattern, with more parallel panels
The decorative decanter stands approximately 12 1/2 inches tall and is in very good condition. It does however have a hairline crack, not easily seen, but running around the neck when one looks for it. This means it now an eye catching item for home decor rather than a fully functional decanter bottle. Price substantially reduced for this flaw, even though this is still a highly collectible and gorgeous piece of antique opaline glass in a genie bottle style.
